Power Distribution

The modern buildings we occupy are reliant on power to function. We regularly use outlets to charge our electronics, utilize heating elements to cook, and flip switches to light our spaces. This is made possible by distribution of electricity from your energy provider to your point of use. Aethera Engineers has a multitude of experience in electrical distribution design and coordinates your power delivery needs with equipment requirements. We effectively aid in protecting your components from faults and surges, whether there are fluctuations in the grid, equipment failures, or simply bad weather. A handful of our electrical services include:

  • Low- and medium-voltage delivery

  • Emergency and standby power generation

  • Grounding and bonding systems

  • Power factor correction and harmonic mitigation

  • Lightning protection systems

Lighting Design

Light is vital to our existence, effecting our physical and emotional health within and without the buildings we inhabit. At æ we believe that exceptional lighting design can distinguish architecture and the space around it, impacting productivity, mood, and spirit. Our process includes:

  • Developing lighting quality and energy-efficiency criteria

  • Identification of daylighting opportunities and strategies

  • Producing lighting system documentation, i.e. technical drawings, luminaire schedules, product data sheets, and control diagrams

  • Coordination between architects, clients, and manufacturers, with maintenance in mind

  • Photometric calculations and energy usage tabulations

Integrated Technology

In a world increasingly defined by tech dexterity, the planning & design of spaces demand careful consideration for current needs as well as future advances. The client experience inspires our security and technology solutions. We take pride in our plans, ensuring that our designs are properly coordinated with the other building systems disciplines (MEPF) and the surrounding architecture. This approach culminates in a built environment that is simple, safe, and seamless for the end user. We remain vendor-neutral in our selection processes, working alongside owners to establish programs which deliver reliability. Our Integrated Technology offerings include:

  • Structured Cabling Systems (Wired & Wireless)

  • Inside/Outside Plant - Cabling & Pathways

  • Audiovisual Multimedia Systems

  • Building Automation Systems

  • Electronic Safety and Physical Security Systems

Sustainability & Feasibility Studies

The A/E industry will know that sustainability is mainstream when we stop referring to designs as Green, since it will be understood. As we move toward net-zero and even net-positive building dynamics, analytics will become a foundational component in our design process. At æ we provide power generation systems analysis and economic feasibility as an included service with all of our designs. Upon request, we hand over the following documentation to Architects and Clients, so that informed decisions can be made:

  • On-Site photovoltaic array implementation

  • Distributed wind turbine power generation

  • Solar water heating for domestic hot water

  • Estimated carbon emissions reduction analysis

  • Financial options and implications

Specification Writing

Construction Documents are incomplete without proper Specifications. We take pride in confirming that owner requested items appear in the appropriate specification sections, and put in the requisite time and effort to fully match the format provided by the Prime Consultant. Edits are made concurrent with design implementations and revisions, such that conflicts are minimized. Aethera Engineers produces the items below to ensure projects are successful:

  • Review of contracts and project scope

  • Confirmation of written format and delivery

  • Maintenance of project specific roles and responsibilities

  • Develop Project Manual Specifications - Div. 21-28

  • Verification of quality assurance and quality control

Construction Administration

When design is complete, construction begins. At Aethera Engineers, we believe that continuity is key to overall project success. As the project transitions from our desks to the field, our Engineers stay with the project to completion. We know that engaging our design staff in the CA process builds in feedback loops that provide valuable learning opportunities and growth. We provide the following Construction Administration services, among others:

  • Site Visits and Field Observation Reports (FORs)

  • Answers to Requests for Information (RFIs)

  • Product data Submittal Review Comments (SRCs)

  • Payment application & Cost Review Requests (CRRs)

  • Review of functional testing data from commissioning agents or manufacturers

Mechanical Engineering

Heating and cooling account for roughly half of the energy consumption in modern buildings. We optimize for energy efficient design while seeking proven solutions to deliver superb occupant comfort. Building automation systems and controls further enhance the level of environmental control while maximizing safety, minimizing energy use, and assuring compliance with ever-evolving energy codes and sustainability guidelines. We select the best system type for your specific building application and don’t shy away from complex implementations. At Aethera Engineers, we offer the following Mechanical Engineering design services:

  • Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning (HVAC)

  • Building Automation Systems & HVAC Controls

  • Energy Recovery Systems

  • Kitchen Ventilation & Exhaust Systems

  • Central Heating and Cooling Plants

Fire Detection & Notification

When smoke or fire is encountered within a structure, response time is critical and occupants safety is paramount. The Codes adhered to by the A/E industry are driven by the prevention and mitigation of fire. Aethera Engineers understands the complexities of these Codes and how they work together to provide early warning and notification, so that your property is protected and people are safe. We provide performance specifications along with detailed drawings depicting the components below:

  • Elevator recall, shunt trip, and operational sequence

  • Ionization, photoelectric, aspirating, projected beam, and duct smoke detection

  • Audible and visual notification

  • Fixed temperature and rate-of-rise heat detection

  • Monitoring devices for flow/tamper switches, fire/smoke dampers, shutdown/door holder relays, and pull stations
